CROWNS – A crown is a type of dental restoration which completely caps or encircles a tooth or dental implant. Crowns are often needed when a large cavity threatens the ongoing health of a tooth. They are typically bonded to the tooth using a dental cement. Crowns can be made from many materials, which are usually fabricated using indirect methods. Crowns are often used to improve the strength or appearance of teeth.
Also known as fixed removable dentures, literally bridge the gap created by one or more missing teeth. A typical bridge is made up of two crowns (one on either side of the gap) and a false tooth/teeth in between. Bridges are attached to surrounding natural teeth or dental implants for support. The anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth and the false teeth are called pontics. Pontics can be made from porcelain, alloys, gold or a combination on materials.
Removable partial dentures
Usually consist of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-coloured plastic bases. Depending on your needs, the dentist will design a partial denture for you. A partial denture may have a metal framework and clasps that connect to your teeth, or they can have other connectors that are more natural looking.
REMOVABLE COMPLETE DENTURES – can be either “conventional” or “immediate.” Made after the teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has begun to heal, a conventional denture is ready for placement in the mouth about eight to 12 weeks after the teeth have been removed.
FIXED DENTURES (WITH IMPLANTS) – consists of a dental implant bridge (sometimes called permanent dentures) that is supported by four or more dental implants. Because the dental implants function like the natural roots, the permanent dentures will feel very much like your natural teeth did.
